A Colorado woman is dead after an apparent bungee jumping accident at Get Air at the Silo Trampoline Park, in Grand Junction. Ciara Romero‘s exact cause of death remains a mystery.
Romero, 20, died while bungee jumping at the popular trampoline park. The bungee device at the center of her accident was found to be functioning properly, according to reports.
The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment worked with manufacturer Head Rush Technologies to test the device and is not investigating other potential reasons for the Jan. 4 fall that killed Romero, reports the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel. Romero was participating in a 70-foot bungee-jump feature at facility when she fell. Participants climb one of the silo’s towers, then transfer to a wooden platform and jump off while attached to a rope. Participants then fall for about 20 feet and are caught by the device and lowered slowly to the ground. source
“This inspection involved testing which subjected the device to various loading profiles across a range of weights, where the velocity and force were recorded in simulated descents,” according to a statement from the company published by the Sentinel.
“The inspection and testing determined that the device, webbing and triple-locking carabiner were found to be intact, and functioning normally, with no apparent damage,” the company said.
Now that they have ruled out the device as a factor in her death, state investigators will examine witness statements and continue to share information with local police.
“We’re looking at all possible causes,” Cher Haavind, a spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, told the Sentinel. “This is extremely rare, which is why the investigation is taking longer.”
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends at this difficult time.
