Summer Caddel told ABC her boyfriend, Johnnie Langendorff, “called her moments after the shooting at First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs and told her that he saw a gunfight between the shooter and two men who “returned fire.”
The shooter, Devin Patrick Kelley, who killed 27 people at the church during Sunday service, would later be located dead. Police said during a news conference, they were not yet sure if Kelley’s wounds were self inflicted or not.
A Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman has acknowledged that an armed citizen opened fire causing the shooter to drop his rifle and flee.
Langendorff says the suspected gunman made it to his SUV and drove away, but the two men gave chase. The chase ended at a sharp curve where the suspect wrecked. During this time, the two men pursuing him were on the phone with 911 giving detailed information to police about where they were headed. Shortly after the crash, the man fled on foot. source
Langendorff reportedly has not been able to contact her boyfriend since the incident. His phone has reportedly been taken as evidence.
