Authorities said they found two Florida moms inside an SUV overdosing on heroin as their two babies were seated behind them in the back seat.
As a 1-month-old and a 2-month-old watched on, Kristen O’Connor and June Schweinhart snorted heroin in the vehicle. The women met in drug rehab and bonded because they were both pregnant and had the same due date.
Police said they believe on Thursday, the two relapsed together, snorting heroin in an SUV with their babies in the back seat.
When police arrived, paramedics were already on the scene, treating the two mothers. O’Connor passed out, and Schweinhart was able to call 911: “I think my friend just had a seizure. She’s, like, out.” It took a call from a Good Samaritan to explain to police what was going on. That person was still on the scene when police arrived. “I was parked next to them, and I thought I was going to have to give them CPR because she quit breathing. I don’t know. The one was trying to call somebody,” the 911 caller said. source
Police say they gave the women Narcan to revive them, which may have saved their lives.
Both women were jailed and charged with child neglect. The babies were placed in the care of family members.
