State Police say a young mother has died in a one car crash that likely took place on Sunday, but was discovered this afternoon, along Interstate 95 in Old Town. Her two young children survived the crash and are being treated at EMMC for minor injuries. The woman was reported missing Sunday night when she failed to show up in Howland to meet her ex-husband with the children.

A passing tractor trailer truck driver spotted the missing car in thick woods in the median strip about 1:30 this afternoon at mile 197. Troopers said the Mazda station wagon went off the road on a curve, vaulted over the crossover in the median, became airborne and then overturned several times before coming to rest on its side. The car was about 50 feet from the road in thick woods and not visible to most passersby. Both children were in their car seats. Dead is 26 year old Liza Parker of Bangor. Her two children, five year old Mason Worcester and 18 month old Tiaona Robinson survived and were pulled from the car by Old Town Fire and Rescue personnel.

Troopers said all indications are the crash took place Sunday evening.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends at this difficult time.
