The Toledo Police Department announced an officer-involved shooting that left Shane Marsh dead.

Marsh, 44, was shot on the 1700 block of Berkshire Place around 8:30 p.m. on Monday by TPD officer Jonathon Curtis, a five-year veteran of the force, TPD confirmed.

Police say the responded to a 911 call of a woman who was being assaulted by Marsh and was screaming for help. Police say Marsh and the woman had been living together for nine years. Police said officers responded to the home earlier that day as well, but by the time officers arrived on the scene, Marsh had left. Police say when Officer Curtis arrived at the scene he was encountered by Marsh, who was armed with a knife. source

Police say that shortly after this, Officer Curtis fired one round from his firearm and ended the threat.

Chief George Kral said that an investigation is ongoing, however he believes that Officer Curtis acted as he should have in that situation.

“Based on information I received from detectives, it appears that Officer Curtis acted within departmental policies and within the law,” said Chief Kral. “However, as in all officer-involved shooting incidents, the final criminal investigation will be forwarded to the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office for review.”

Officer Curtis has been placed on administrative leave until the case has been reviewed.
