WA Man Killed By Police In Longview Domestic Dispute Arrested In 2016

Henry Stephen Rakoz Jr., the Washington man shot and killed by police after they responded to domestic dispute call Sunday night, is the same man arrested in September, 2016, and charged with two counts of second-degree domestic violence reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and unlawful possession of a firearm.

In the 2016 incident, Rakoz Jr., 47, fired his rifle in the air during a dispute with his wife on the 2400 block of 48th Avenue. Four officers were dispatched but Rakoz had left the home in a vehicle. He was later apprehended and charged.

On Sunday night, two officers with the Longview Police Department were involved in a deadly shooting after responding to a report of domestic violence.

According to Longview Police, officers rushed to the area of Olympia Way and 32nd Avenue just before 10:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a domestic assault.

The officers were told that the suspect in the assault had left the house and was possibly armed. Details eerily similar to the 2016 incident.

Investigators said officers later located Rakoz Jr., and after a confrontation, two officers shot and killed him.

“Shots were fired by our officers,” Longview Police Chief Jim Duscha said, “the suspect went down and was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead there.”

The suspect was identified Monday evening by the Cowlitz County Coroner’s Office as Rakoz Jr. His cause of death was listed as multiple gunshot wounds.

Sadly, the 2016 incident and last night’s incident both occurred on a Sunday.

Toxicology tests have been submitted and the results are expected back in six to eight weeks.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends at this difficult time.
