Fast Moving Sunland-Tujunga Brush Fire La Tuna Evacuations Ordered

ABC7: A brush fire burned through more than 1,500 acres Friday and led to some 200 evacuations as it spread amid windy, hot conditions north of the 210 Freeway.

The La Tuna Fire was burning in the Sun Valley and Sunland-Tujunga areas.

The 210 Freeway was closed in the area, and was expected to remain closed until Saturday morning, fire officials said.

Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Erik Scott said firefighters were expected to continue battling the fire late into the night.

As of Friday evening, no injuries were reported and no structures were damaged.

“Firefighters are battling not only 106 degree temperatures today with low relative humidity, but it’s also very steep and rugged terrain,” Scott said. “Fortunately we have no injuries to firefighter.”

Earlier in the day, fire officials said the shifting wind meant the fire had the potential to grow to 2,000 acres after it jumped the 210 Freeway.

At one point, officials said about 50 homes were threatened by the flames. By 6 p.m. they said the homes were not being threatened.

Homes on Reverie Road, Tranquil Drive, Inspiration Way, Hillhaven Avenue and Glen O Peace Parkway in Sunland-Tujunga north of the 210 had been evacuated as the fire continued to grow.

About 200 homes had been evacuated, officials said. Those were considered voluntary evacuations.

Firefighters were sending additional resources to that neighborhood for structure protection and to assist with evacuations.
