A Lithia Springs High School teacher shot himself in a classroom on Thursday morning, school officials confirmed. It was not immediately confirmed if the shooting took place during class or when school was in session, however, according to Douglas County School System spokesperson Nell Boggs, the teacher was alone when the shooting occurred around 7:15 a.m.
The identity of the victim and his condition was not immediately made available. Douglas County School Superintendent Trent North said that the man was married and had a child.

Classes have been cancelled for the day, Boggs said. Students may be picked up by a guardian or parents, and buses will be available to take riders home.
Douglas County Police Sgt. Jesse Hambrick confirmed that no students or staff were injured in the incident.
Some folks on social media expressed concern over the incident and mentioned the death may have been as a result of a suicide.
