A Charlotte couple was killed when their car ran off the road and struck a tree in northeast Charlotte Sunday morning, wbtv is reporting.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the single-vehicle wreck occurred around 1:39 a.m. in the 3400 block of Hubbard Road near Haybridge Road.
Police say 40-year-old Larry Lee Lockhart Jr., aka Moses Lockhart, and 42-year-old Tabitha Denise Staton, aka, Denise “Tabi Tab” Staton, were both killed in the crash. Lockhart was driving a 2012 Dodge Challenger when he lost control and drove off the right side of the road, CMPD said. Officers said the vehicle then went down an embankment before striking a tree on the passenger side.
Speed is a factor in this crash, police say. Officers have not said whether alcohol was another factor.
Friends and family members took to Facebook to express their condolences:
Sabrina Jones: “Denise Staton my sister, my best friend. I am missing you so much. My heart is so heavy i still can’t believe it. My Tabi Tab i love you always….sip until we meet again”
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends at this difficult time.
