Abbiegail “Abbie” Smith, the missing 11-year-old N.J. girl has been located dead on Thursday morning in Monmouth County.
Smith was found “in the immediate vicinity” of her home at the Hancock Arms Apartments on Hancock Street as police searched for her around 10:45 a.m., according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.
He would not elaborate further on the exact location of where her remains were found.
The prosecutor said her death is considered a homicide but would not comment on whether authorities suspected anyone.
Gramiccioni said investigators are still trying to piece together a timeline of where she may have been after leaving the apartment. He said Smith and her family were not known to police.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends at this difficult time.
