BART transit police are asking for the public’s help locating 17-year-old Ashlyn Spellman from Lafayette. The girl went missing in San Francisco Thursday night on her to way to catch BART.
Spellman is reportedly in San Francisco volunteering at a Shakespeare summer camp. On Thursday afternoon, at about 3:45 p.m., two coordinators from the summer camp dropped her off at the North Berkeley BART station, BART officials said. After reviewing security footage, cops say Spellman took BART to San Francisco, where she met with a friend. The friend told investigators that at about 8:30 p.m. Spellman left and said she was heading to Oakland on BART. She has not been seen or heard from ever since.
Spellman does not have a cellphone or a debit card in her possession, according to BART officials. Officials did not elaborate as to why the young woman lacked a phone and a payment method.
Anyone with information about Ashlyn Spellman’s whereabouts is urged to contact (510) 464-7000 or Detective C. Lahanas at (510) 464-7047.
