Oral Roberts Anadarko Lady Warriors women’s basketball player Ashley Beatty has died, school officials have confirmed.
According to Tulsa police and ORU security officers, the sophomore was found dead in a dorm room Thursday evening. The cause of death is pending however, there is no evidence of foul play, officials said.
“We are absolutely heartbroken with the news,” coach Misti Cussen said in a news release. “Ashley was a bright young woman who was loved by everyone on our team and in our community. Obviously our prayers are with the entire Beatty family during this time.” “This is a profound loss for our entire department. We are deeply saddened to learn of Ashley’s passing,” ORU Athletics Director Mike Carter said. “Our love and prayers are with her family, her teammates and her friends, and our department will do everything in its power to support those who knew and loved Ashley.” h/t
Beatty helped lead the Anadarko Lady Warriors to three high school championship game appearances and won a state title in 2012.
Beatty averaged 5.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per game during her freshman season, and she scored in the double digits three times. Her season high was 15 points.
Details about Beatty’s memorial service have not been announced. The family is asking for privacy during its time of loss.
