A pregnant Washington woman has died after her 6-year-old son tragically rolled the family minivan over her in the parking lot of a southwest Tacoma beach. The woman’s young son and other children in the vehicle were uninjured.
Shannon MacLeod, 35, was loading the vehicle via the back hatch when it rolled back and pinned her. arriving EMS workers tried to save the woman but sadly she died on the way to the hospital. The unborn child survived after being delivered via C-section, however, the newborn is reportedly in a vegetated state.
Authorities were called to Sunnyside Beach Park in Steilacoom and found MacLeod trapped under the vehicle. Firefighters used equipment to lift the vehicle off the woman, who was eight months pregnant at the time. She died on the way to the hospital. Doctors were able to perform an emergency C-section and save the baby boy, who was taken to Seattle Children’s Hospital. But family tells KIRO-TV he is not doing well and not showing much brain activity.
A GoFundMe page has been since set up to help with funeral expenses.
