Almost a dozen members of the Lucchese family have been taken into custody after a sweeping federal bust Wednesday morning. Members and associates of the notorious family, including the several in the upper ranks, were arrested on federal racketeering charges, law enforcement officials said.
The FBI‘s Organized Crime Task Force and members of the NYPD executed the arrests on racketeering charges including murder, law enforcement sources said.

The defendants are expected to appear in federal court in White Plains later Wednesday.
The Manhattan U.S. attorney’s office is expected to release additional details of the charges and investigation later in the day.
In 2010, New Jersey authorities indicted 34 Lucchese family members and associates on similar crimes including racketeering, weapons possession, tax evasion, bribery, money laundering and conspiracy.
The two reputed leaders — Joseph DiNapoli, 74, of Scarsdale and Matthew Madonna, 74, of Selden, N.Y. — were indicted in 2010 for their alleged role in the panel that runs gambling organization from New York.
Feds then accused the family of routing bets through a “wire room” based in Costa Rica. Wagers reportedly netted $2.2 billion for the family in a 15-month period, authorities said.
