Former U.S. senator and baseball Hall of Famer Jim Bunning has died, WCPO media partner Fort Thomas Matters reports.

He was 85 years old.

Bunning spent more than two decades representing Kentucky in Washington, with six terms in the U.S. House of Representatives and two in the Senate.

He was inducted to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1996. His perfect game in 1964 was the first in the National League in the 20th century, according to the Hall of Fame’s website. He played from 1955 to 1971, mostly with Detroit and Philadelphia.
