A Brooklyn cafe is claiming in a newly filed lawsuit that they were the ones to create the abomination sensation known as the “Unicorn Latte.”
In December, The End cafe started selling a Unicorn Latte, then in April, Starbucks launched their own version called a “Unicorn Frappuccino.” The Starbucks drink enjoyed considerable media attention as a limited-run item.
The End is accusing Starbucks of “overshadowing” its health-conscious drink with the sugary Unicorn Frappuccino in the new lawsuit.
Both drinks are similar in that neither contains coffee, though they are on the opposite spectrum of healthy consumption. The End says the Unicorn Latte is made from ingredients like dates, ginger root and algae. The lawsuit says Starbucks’ drink is made from milk and artificial sweeteners. h/t kgw
The cafe is seeking unspecified compensation and a public apology.
A spokesperson for Starbucks says the lawsuit is without merit.
