Two children, Kimberly and Kelly Yates, reported missing way back in 1985, have emerged in the Houston area. Their birth mother, Elaine Yates, has been charged with snatching them, say Rhode Island State Police.
Police said, Yates, 69, was arrested after an anonymous tip led them to Kimberly and Kelly Yates, who were snatched over three decades ago. The trio were found living under assumed identities in the Houston area, police said Tuesday. The sisters were said to be in good health.
They said the mother had been living in Houston under the name Leina Waldberg. She was arrested on Monday without incident and faces arraignment Wednesday in Rhode Island on a fugitive charge. Kelly was 10-months old when she went missing. Her sister was 3. Kelly, now 32, and Kimberly, now 35, were not living with their mother but were in the Houston area. h/t abcnews
Police say their father has been informed and is “relieved.” It will be up to the daughters whether or not to make contact with him.
Yates is now facing two counts of child snatching and could face up to 20 years in prison under state law.
