Queens woman, Katrina Vetrano, never returned home after going jogging on the night of August 2. Hours after being reported missing she was found dead in a marshland.
Authorities say, Vetrano, 30, was murdered and sexually assaulted. She was discovered in the marshes near 161st Ave. and 78th St” and that she had been “strangled,” said a local newspaper. Vetrano was found with her pants pulled down.
One of Vetrano’s neighbors told NBC New York about his shock at the killing. “I feel bad for the parents. She went jogging inside the trail and she never returned home. Something like this, it’s so close by. It’s really a shock,” the man said. The station reports that an autopsy is still pending on Vetrano. Another neighbor, identified as John, told the Daily News that vagrants live close to where Vetrano had been jogging. He said, “I hear there’s a couple of shanty houses out there.” The newspaper adds that Vetrano’s father, retired FDNY firefighter Philip Vetrano, was active in the search for his daughter. h/t theheavy
