Microsoft co-founder, philanthropist and sports teams owner, Paul Allen’s 303-foot mega-yacht has destroyed 80 percent of a protected coral reef in the Caribbean, according to Cayman Islands officials.
The Caymans’ Department of Environment has accused Allen, the owner of the Seattle Seahawks and Portland Trail Blazers, of having caused massive damage to the protected coral reef in the West Bay replenishing zone.
After an inspection by local divers to assess the damage, officials have found that Allen’s 303-foot yacht MV Tatoosh wrecked a high percentage of the coral, which is essential for marine life. It is thought that the accident was caused by a yacht’s chain when it was anchored near the Doc Poulson shipwreck and The Knife dive site. h/t seattletimes
Named “Tatoosh,” the obscenely huge vessel is the 49th largest in the world being described as “a model of understated luxury” in those big-yacht rankings, it is manned by a crew of 30 and has two helipads.
