Alise Nipper, the 3-year-old Missouri girl who drowned in a pool on July 29, was without any detectable heartbeat for an astounding 12 full minutes before waking up in her praying mother’s arms.
Alise and her mother, Jamie, were attending a pool party in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, when a lighting storm approached. After removing all of the children from the pool and going inside, Jamie realized Alise was missing.
“All of the sudden, I look over and she wasn’t there, where I last saw her.” Terrified for her daughter’s safety, Jamie ran to the pool and saw her daughter’s foot resting under a raft. Jamie said: “Something took over me. I remember jumping across the pool, coming up and shouting, ‘Dial 911.’ I was praying while I grabbed her that she would start coughing as if she’d just fallen in, but when I brought her up from the water, it was evident she was without life. She was blue.” Heather Kyle, a fellow party-goer who happens to be a nurse and CPR instructor, quickly ran over to perform CPR on Alise. The little girl clearly didn’t have a pulse. Kyle said: “I had very little hope of a positive outcome. I said, ‘We are going to do CPR until an ambulance gets here.'” h/t aol
For a nail-biting and tear filled 12 minutes straight, the little girl remained lifeless. Then, suddenly, her heart started beating again to the amazement of onlookers. EMS arrived and transported her to a local hospital.
Doctors say Alise suffered temporary brain and lung injuries from the incident, however, a mere six days after the accident, Alise’s ventilator was removed and she was able to talk, sing and function normally. She is expected to make a full recovery.
