Tony Gwynn, one of the star hitters playing for the San Diego Padres, has passed away.
Gwynn was only 54.
Gwynn, who underwent multiple surgeries during his playing career to remove growths from his mouth, was diagnosed with cancer of a salivary gland in 2011.
He chalked it up to his heavy dipping tobacco habit—it was rare to see Gwynn without a full cheek. Gwynn’s condition had apparently worsened over the last months. source
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Gwynn’s family, friends and San Diego fans at this difficult time.
