A few girls at a top-performing high school in NYC came up with a clever way to protest the ultra-conservative dress code. They tweeted their idea to a few friends, and thanks to the magic of social media, hundreds of young women showed up to class — scantily clothed. And now almost the entire female student body follows the slutty ritual every Wednesday, leaving school officials unable to come up with a way to squash it…
About a hundred teenage girls come into school on Wednesdays now, dressed… well… slutty!
At this school, Stuyvesant High School, they have strict rules just like many other schools, that state ‘students cannot expose shoulders, midriffs, lower backs, bras and undies’. Also, ‘dresses, skirts and shorts are not allowed to be shorter than fingertips while placed at their sides’.
These smart female students were tired of being brought into the Principal’s office for breaking the overly-strict dress code rules, so they got together and protested by starting “Slutty Wednesdays”.
9th grade student Lucy Greider, who says she’s been called to the Principal’s office numerous times since the dress code became more strict last Fall, says that ‘they way the students dress, shouldn’t overshadow how great the students do in school’. She told NY Post, “We work our asses off here, and school is about learning. Clothing is not important… A lot of the classrooms don’t have a/c’s and when it is 80 degrees outside and it is really hot, it’s perfectly OK to show a little skin.”
What’s funny about Slutty Wednesdays, is that the school can’t really do anything about the slutty day since so many girls are participating! It’s not like they can send a hundred girls home. Great work ladies!

My school had the same exact dress code when I was in high school! (Which wasn't long ago, I am only 24) and guess what? I followed it and it was no big deal! These kids are just freakin spoiled little brats! I live in arizona where it gets a hell of a lot hotter than 80 so I can't say I sympathize at all for these kids. Most places where they decide to work in the future (if these brats even get jobs) are going to have a dresscode as well! Some of which are going to be far worse than the ones this school has!
Did everyone who is arguing that this was acceptable for the kids to do remember that they are in fact just kids?? Why do they need to wear anything shorter than finger tip length and why do they need to wear anything that doesn't cover their torso?? Most average every day adults don't even dress that way so why should the school let the kids?? If the kids have wardrobes that are so bad that they actually worry about what they are going to wear to school then their is a huge freakin problem.
I have 2 daughters and I know first hand now that an overly strict dress code can cause the students to be uncomfortable, and affects their learning ability. If they are worrying if they got the dress code right instead of studying, it makes it hard to pass. Times are changing, and with that, society needs to change it's views on a lot of stuff. I think these girls are very creative with how they handled this.. and how they used the power of the net to spread their message to those 100+ students that now participate. Kudos to you girls!
Alright really guys? if you would read the whole thing it would tell you their school has no a/c, and my school is the same exact way...when you over dress in a building with no air conditioning it can get REALLY hot...and don't go think oh he is a guy so he is just thinking with his dick...it can get really hot and they are protesting because they get sent home for showing their shoulder...that is really stupid and the school needs to calm down with the whole...oh no skin showing...what is this? the 1700's? no its the 21st century and this is really dumb. Don't try to say they are immature, you're being immature for saying they are.
This is so stupid. These girls are going to have a rude awakening in a few years when they go get a job and find out that those places have dress codes too! Telling you not to wear skimpy clothing when you come to school or work (fyi, school IS your job when you're a kid) is NOT oppressive. It's life. Kids today want to act like they're all such freaking martyrs. Get over yourselves.
Also, if you want to dress like "sluts" that's fine. Just don't be surprised when all the guys you know treat you as such.
Stuyvesant really went all out on this one.
I think we should all focus on the real problem here:
Magnets. How do they work?
Also, this is probably bigger news

Read this reply, lol'd: I think this article and the girls in it are blowing this out of proportion and it's kind of pathetic that at such a "top " school they think that their dresscode is "ultra conservative ". The school doesn't apparently live up to their high standards in teaching and these girls need a few lessons in character. This isn't a protest, it's a joke. Go protest Republicans that want to take your rights to gynecological care instead! The writer of the article should probably reevaluate their journalism career while they're at it with the sensationalism
hehe, all out.
hehe, all out.

I wish my high school had mandated uniforms. My regular clothes sucked back then.
Yeah, they're all clever now, just wait until they go back from summer break and are forced to wear uniforms. Jeez, that dress code isn't strict, they're just fuckin' spoiled.

CLEVER BOY!
The kicker? This was started by a boy in the school. He just pretended to be a girl online.
That guy is a genius.
What happened to the days when kids stood up for something that had a purpose? So your school makes you wear a uniform, wah wah wah, get over it, life's not going to go your way for much longer. Protesting by wearing "slutty" clothing, it's a wonder why their parents haven't stepped in. Way to go, future leaders.
