Actress Salma Hayek is the cover girl for Lucky Magazine’s May issue. In this snippet we have of Hayek’s interview, she tells the world about a ‘personal’ issue she had, when she was ‘coming up as an actress’ in the movie business.
Hayek is undeniably one of the most beautiful Spanish women in Hollywood, and has been that for some time now. But Hayek’s days of being a struggling actor weren’t simply about struggling to pay rent- she had a physical problem that made her struggle mentally, that caused her to miss out on catching her dreams earlier in life.
Hayek tells Lucky, that when she was 25, and trying to live her dreams as an actress, she couldn’t exactly fit any roles with the terrible skin condition she suffered. Hayek recalls, “I had acne, and this acne was so bad it sent me into severe, severe depression.”
Hayek says that her acne was so bad, that she felt as if she couldn’t leave her house, saying, “Like I couldn’t leave the house. The next stage with that sort of depression is food – too little or too much. Guess what I did?…”
We guess that she ate herself into happiness? Hayek says, “I was fat and broken out. I couldn’t leave the house and I couldn’t pay the rent!”
Hayek says that she finally tried a harsh drug that would hopefully end her straining acne, telling the magazine that she took the drug “Accutane” to kill it. She said that Accutane, a.k.a. “Roaccutane”, finally cured her problem, but now, she says- “Since then my skin’s forever sensitive and dry.”
I know a little bit about Accutane, and it can cause birth defects and other health problems, especially if the user is not taking it exactly as prescribed. It’s a dangerous drug, but it has cured a few of my friends who had the same acne problem as Hayek did.
