What’s in the water in Hollywood?

Is it just me or have celebrities been popping out babies left and right lately? Every day it seems like Hollywood stars are either announcing they are pregnant, like Beyonce and Tori Spelling, or are giving birth to kids who will undoubtedly have a ridiculous name.

The list of celebs that had their babies within the last few months goes on and on. There must be something in the water out there in Hollywood. Of course, there are the most recent ones, like Jenna Fisher who had a baby boy, Weston Lee (surprised by the normal name? me too) on September 24th and Donald Trump Jr., whose wife just gave birth to their son, Tristan Milos. “LOST” star, Evangeline Lilly, jumped on the bandwagon as well, with her unknown named son (insert likely bizarre name here), born in May.

On top of all the new babies in Hollywood, pregnancy rumors are spreading through the tabloids like the plague. Jessica Simpson may finally have an excuse for the weight she’s gained and Avril Lavigne may be sporting a baby bump. Is she really making things “so complicated” with boyfriend Brody Jenner? How about Jennifer Aniston being pregnant with boyfriend Justin Theroux’s baby? Who knows what to believe anymore?

Not only are celebs reproducing at a rapid speed, but soon–to-be mothers seem to be getting younger and younger. When I first heard that Hilary Duff was pregnant, I almost fell over. After only being married to her hockey player husband, Mike Comrie, for a year, is 24-year-old Duff really ready to become a mother? Maybe she feels she is and who am I to judge? I guess I will just always think of Hilary as a young, fresh-faced Lizzie McGuire. Just as I was beginning to accept Duff’s pregnancy, I was blown away by more Disney pregnancy gossip: Brenda Song. While she has denied these reports, it is still unclear what the truth is. The shock has not worn off for me, as I think of these celebs as mere Disney babies themselves.

Have these stars thought about what all of these new babies will do to their careers? Sure, it’s fun in the beginning to hear about your favorite star becoming a parent to an adorable bundle of joy, but have you thought about the consequences? A leave of absence from your favorite sitcom, a hiatus from making movies, and a cancelled concert tour are all possible results of this recent Hollywood baby chaos that is occurring before our very eyes. So while we’re all awing over the cute photos in magazines, stars could be letting us down in the long run. Let’s try to keep the H20 intake to a minimum, as I can only imagine what the fall announcement/rumor mill has in store.
