The Lilith Fair tour was built on female talent and female audience support but the cancellation of at least 10 dates demonstrates it’s really all about the money.
Even though thousands of eager fans purchased tickets to attend shows in their state, many fans will be sorely disappointed to learn they will have to make other plans.
Sarah McLachlan and co-founder Terry McBride released the following statement, “We are in the midst of one of the most challenging summer concert seasons with many tours being cancelled outright, everyone involved with the tour would like to apologize to the fans and artists scheduled to play in these markets, and express appreciation for all the support for the festival’s return. Lilith remains the only tour of its kind, and we are confident that fans will be amazed by what each date has to offer.”
It seems nothing could save the tour, not even the very impressive line-up: Rihanna, Colbie Caillat, Kelly Clarkson, Selena Gomez, Indigo Girls, Heart, Queen Latifah, Norah Jones, Mary J. Blige, Sheryl Crow, and Sugarland, to name a few.
It is rumored many bands have pulled the plug on tours this summer for reasons ‘other’ than actually claimed. U2, Christina Aguilera, Maxwell and Simon & Garfunkel all canceled for one reason or another, word is, it was one reason, poor ticket sales.
Lilith Fair fans will have their calender wide-open for the following dates: Salt Lake City (July 12), Montreal (July 23), Raleigh (August 4), Charlotte (August 6), West Palm Beach (August 10), Tampa (August 11), Birmingham (August 12), Austin (August 14), Houston (August 15) and Dallas (August 16).
