Bollywood star, Shah Rukh Khan was detained and subsequently Interrogated at Newark airport for a yet unknown reason. Khan’s detention has set off firestorm of debate in India.
Khan, 43, is one of India’s most beloved movie stars and was simply on his way to Chicago for a parade marking Indian Independence Day, when airport officials heavy handily pull him out of the cue and isolated him.
After several hours of questioning, Khan was allowed to make a single phone call. Khan used his call wisely, informing the Indian consulate, who in turn talked some sense in airport security. Khan was then released.
Khan recently finished shooting a film in the U.S. entitled “My Name is Khan.” Coincidentally Khan’s movie deals with racial profiling among Muslim Men.
**UPDATE**
U.S. bureau of Customs and Border Protection spokesman is now saying that Khan was only questioned in the agency’s routine process to screen foreign travelers. He said Kahn was not detained and it took all of 66 minutes.
