Steven Spielberg
I’m not sure how people feel about remakes but we’ve got a big one coming along. Steven Spielberg has signed on to remake the heartwarming classicJimmy Stewart film Harvey for 20th Century Fox and Dreamworks. The original 1950 film, based on a stage play of the same name, follows a man who is best friends with an invisible six-foot-tall rabbit named Harvey. The film is considered one of the greatest of its time. I can totally imagine a really good take by the master film maker. Of course I’d see a film of paint drying if Spielberg directed it. That actually doesn’t sound like a horrible idea.
There is no cast set and no timetable for filming though the studio wants to start in early 2010. If that’s the case, we’ll be hearing a lot about this movie sooner rather than later.
Spielberg released the following statement regarding the announcement:
“I am very happy to be working again with my friend Tom Rothman who shepherded us through ‘Minority Report,’ and with Elizabeth and Carla, who I’m looking forward to collaborating with. DreamWorks has experienced a creative and profitable relationship with Twentieth Century Fox in the past, and I look forward to renewing that time together.”
There’s going to be a lot of people saying that remakes are stupid and this is a foolish mistake but I say give Steven a chance. He’s obviously one the greatest directors of all time and with a solid cast and script, this movie could be great. I guess we’ll see next year.
