Richmond VA Police Officer Who Shot Unarmed HS Teacher On I-95 Monday Identified

The Richmond Police officer who shot and killed Marcus-David Lamar Peters on Interstate 95 Monday night was identified by authorities as Officer Michael Nyantakyi.

Nyantakyi is a ten-year veteran of the Richmond Police Department. He remains on administrative leave while police investigate the shooting, according to Richmond Police.

Nyantakyi shot Marcus-David Lamar Peters, a 24-year-old Essex County high school teacher, during a strange encounter on the interstate. Continue reading

Meherrin VA Woman ID’d As Victim In Fatal Hwy 15 SUV Vs School Bus Accident Wednesday

Meherrin woman, Katherine C. Hobgood, has been named as the victim in a fatal Highway 15/501 crash in Virginia.

Hobgood, 68, was killed when her SUV collided head-on with a Cumberland County school bus on Route 15 near County Road 701, Farmville.

“A 2014 Chevrolet Captiva was traveling south on Route 15 when it crossed the center line and struck a northbound school bus head-on,” a Virginia State Police spokesperson said. “The male driver of the school bus was transported to Southside Community Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Janice Haley ID’d As Gretna VA Victim In Fatal Franklin US 220 Crash Wednesday

Janice Haley has been identified by Virginia State Police as the victim in a fatal crash that occurred on U.S. 220 in Franklin, Virginia, Wednesday.

Haley, 28, was operating a 2001 Saturn L200 just south of Route 693 in Franklin County when the vehicle left the roadway, crossed the median and struck a 2005 Ford pickup truck.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials identified the driver of the Ford as Keith Shelton McConnell, 47, of Glade Hill. He was transported to the hospital with injuries sustained in the crash. The severity of his injuries were not immediately provided. Continue reading

Tragic End To Search For Missing VA Teen Sarah Genari – Body Located In Linden

The body of missing Virginia teen, Sarah Genari, has been located. A search had been ongoing since the young girl was reported missing since April 26, according to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.

Genari’s cause of death was not revealed. Circumstances surrounding her death were also not released.

“It is with heavy hearts that the Warren County Sheriff’s Office reports that human remains were found May 8th, 2018 at approximately 2 p.m., during a search in the Granny Smith Road area of Apple Mountain,” the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook. “The remains were identified by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner as those of missing juvenile, Sarah Genari.” Continue reading

Randy Cassell ID’d As Bassett VA Man Killed In Monday Morning Rocky Mount Crash

Randy Cassell has been identified as the Bassett VA man killed in a Monday morning crash on Virgil H Goode Hwy.

Cassell, 54, was traveling on State Route 220 at 7:53 a.m. just south of State 608 in Rocky Mount when the fatal crash occurred. His vehicle left the roadway and struck several trees before coming to a rest.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said a 1992 Buick Roadmaster was traveling north on Route 220 when the car ran off the right side of the roadway and struck several trees. The driver of the Buick was identified by authorities as Cassell of Bassett. Continue reading

“First Ever” African Snakehead Fish Discovered In VA Colonial Heights Reservoir

Northern Snakehead fish have been discovered in the Colonial Height’s Lakeview Reservoir, a first in state history in the collection of James River drainage, according to Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries biologists.

Though the predatory fish had previously been found in other Virginia waterways, the discovery in the reservoir in April, was the first ever occurrence of this species.

“Exotic species like snakeheads can disrupt natural aquatic systems and may have significant impacts by feeding on and competing with native and/or naturalized fishes,” Dr. Mike Bednarski, with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, said. “In addition, they may transmit parasites and diseases to native wildlife in those systems.” Continue reading

Andra Watson ID’d As Lynchburg VA Man Killed After Shot In Head, Female Also Shot In Head

Lynchburg Police have identified Andra Watson, 33, of Lynchburg, VA, as the man found shot in the head early Saturday morning.

Police say they are investigating the fatal shooting after responding to a call of “shots fired” early Saturday morning around 2:30. While on the scene police located Watson lying in a pool of blood in the street. An unnamed woman was also shot in the head in the incident. She was transported via LifeFlight to an area hospital. Her condition is unknown.

Officers were called to the 1100 block of 18th Street where they found a man with a gunshot wound to the head. Police say he was lying in the middle of the roadway. Life-saving efforts were attempted, but he died on scene. Continue reading

Family Pictures VA Teen Found Dead In Wooded Area Of Chesterfield Ettrick

The body of Biniyam J. Eddington was found in a wooded area off Chesterfield Avenue, Ettrick, VA., on Saturday night, authorities said in a report. He was 19.

Eddington’s cause of death has not yet been determined, however, according to investigators, they found no signs of foul play.

“Biniyam, was a beloved son, brother, nephew, grandchild, cousin and friend,” his obituary read. “Biniyam faced diversity and challenges in his young life, but his love and infectious smile will remain pure.” Continue reading

Travis Rios Of Ruckersville Charged “Involuntary Manslaughter” After Running Over Woman On Goochland I-64

Travis Rios has been named as the Ruckersville, VA., man charged with involuntary manslaughter after police say he ran over a female passenger on Interstate 64 in Goochland.

State Police say the incident started when Rios, 24, and a passenger inside a 1999 Honda Accord got into an argument while traveling west on I-64.

“Rios first drove forward and then backed up the vehicle, striking Woodward. The impact sent Woodward into the rear window of the Honda, shattering it, and she then fell to the ground,” said a State Police spokesperson. “Rios stopped the Honda, got out and picked up Woodward to put her inside the vehicle.” Continue reading

Family Pictures VA Woman 28 Killed While Trying To Catch Beloved Dog On I-95

Katie Mason has been named by the VA State police as the woman killed while trying to catch her dog on I-95 in Stafford County Saturday night.

Mason, 28, of Stafford, was struck and killed by a vehicle after her beloved pug, Stella, bolted from the car.

Mason was pronounced dead at the scene. Stella was also fatally struck in the incident.

Virginia State Police said the incident happened just before 10 p.m. less than a mile from the exit for Route 627. That is when troopers said a Toyota Camry heading southbound ran off the interstate and hit a guardrail. Officials said Mason chased after the dog into the interstate southbound lanes where the driver of a Honda Civic was “unable to avoid striking” her. Continue reading
