As I reported to you not long ago, legendary movie company MGM Inc. was drowning in debt and on the verge of bankruptcy.
Tomorrow, MGM will be up for bids to be bought out! Potential players who may buy MGM are Time Warner Inc. and Lions Gate Entertainment Corp.
The eventual winner would gain the right to make new James Bond movies, win half of the rights to the next two “Lord of the Rings” movies based on “The Hobbit” and snatch the studio from a possible bankruptcy filing. Nonbinding bids are due tomorrow, Friday.
After bids come in Friday, financial adviser Moelis & Co. will recommend whether to have a second round of bidding or have MGM attempt to restructure its debt on its own.
Legendary movie company and once a major movie studio MGM (Metro Goldwyn Mayer), is sitting on the edge of 4 billion dollars debt and a potential sale of the company! The death of Hollywood begins…
We all know MGM… the Lion that growls before the movie starts… yeah, that company. This is very sad news for every movie lover in the world. MGM is the birth and blood of moving motion pictures.
The MGM studio lot was sold years ago to Sony Pictures (wish they kept the org MGM sign!), which still resides over in Culver City. I had the opportunity to work there a few times, one being on “The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons” movie. MGM currently has an office building over in Century City. I’m not aware of any current standing “MGM” named studios, but the company does shoot at the Sony studios. Sony owns part of the MGM brand/name/company now, along with a few other odd companies like Texas Pacific Group, Comcast Corp., DLJ Merchant Banking Partners and Quadrangle Group.
This must mean that the new MGM owners can’t take care of their baby due to their own company failures! We’re calling child protection services!
Darren Aronofsky is a very talented director. His last film, The Wrestler, was an Oscar-nominated triumph. He is respected by his peers and his fans. The fact that he’s scheduled to direct a remake of Robocop is somewhat surprising given his indie roots but it also sounds exciting. A realistic, dark, nuanced remake of an 80’s classic? That doesn’t sound like your run-of-the-mill remake. I would be more than happy to see that.
Sadly, it looks like Mr. Aronofsky may be moving on. CHUD.com is reporting that a mix of budget problems, rating desires and scheduling conflicts are raising doubts about Darren Aronofsky’s involvement in the Robocop remake.
MGM, the studio that owns Robocop, wants a successful PG-13 film. Darren Aronofsky wants a hard R-rated, big budget film. The studio is concerned about the mix of money and R rating, thinking it won’t bring in enough cash. And now other films are coming Aronofsky’s way. Things have gotten in complicated. In Hollywood, complicated is never good. So while we’ll definitely get a Robocop film in 2011, it might not be helmed by Aronofsky.
But I’ll still hold out hope. A Robocop remake by Darren Aronofsky would be fantastic.
What do you do when you’re a big celebrity and you don’t have tickets to the Britney Spears concert? Well, you just ’show up!’ Reuniting Britney and Paris for the first time since their infamous panty-less paparazzi chaos…
Paris, her boyfriend Doug Reinhardt and Paris’ sister Nicky, entered the ‘ring’ and were escorted in by Britney’s manager Larry Rudolph and shown around by none other than Britney’s Dad Jamie Spears.
The Hilton entourage came over and literally stood right behind us for the entire show. Paris looked hot as always wearing a short shiny gold dress. What was the rest of the entourage wearing? Who knows! Paris caught my eye!
Nicky was mostly just conversing with her female friend, while Paris was getting cuddly wuddly with boyfriend Doug. They all did a little dancing to Britney’s songs throughout the show.
The audience loved it! Britney and the Hilton girls in one place! The audience snapped boatloads of photos of the Hilton entourage. The girls were really cool about taking photos with their fans.
It’s safe to say, Britney has come a long way since the last time her and Paris were in the press together!
