Tina Fey Wins Emmy for Playing Palin

Tina Fey can add another Emmy to her awards case but she might need to thank former Gov. Sarah Palin for this one.

The writer/actress was awarded an Emmy (her sixth – yikes!) for Guest Actress in a Comedy Series on Saturday for her portrayal of the former vice presidential candidate. As we all remember, Fey’s appearances on Saturday Night Live had the entire country talking.  Many even suggest that Fey’s impression led to serious doubts about Palin’s electability.  And we all know how that turned out.

In her speech, Fey said, “Mrs. Palin is an inspiration to working mothers everywhere because she bailed on her job right before Fourth of July weekend. You are living my dream. Thank you, Mrs. Palin!”

Fey also thanked her parents, who are lifelong Republicans, for their patience.

Fey’s hit show, 30 Rock, is up for a record 22 Emmy awards next week.

The other day, news came that Saturday Night Live had hired two new female cast members for the upcoming season.  Now word comes today that the show has also fired two female cast members.  Therefore, these new additions were actually replacements.

Michaela Watkins and Casey Wilson, two cast member who joined the show in the last season, are no longer a part of the cast.  Both had some memorable moments on the show, Watkins as the Bitchpleeze! blogger and Wilson as…well, I don’t remember a lot of Wilson’s parts but I know she was there.  As usual, Lorne Michaels hasn’t given a definite reason why the girls were let go.  He’s sneaky like that.

Watkins released this statement to The Comic’s Comic:

I will say to you now, though, that I had a GREAT time there. Met some of the most truly talented and fantastic people, had the most exciting job and I honestly can say I don’t have any regrets I can think of right now. Although it seems kinda crazy right now, this may shake out to make sense to everyone. Lorne isn’t known for indulging in any lip-service and I feel very encouraged by his words last week. I’m working on something I’m very excited about now, so… the journey continues, and I feel so lucky I got to stop off at 30 Rock. It was awesome.

    Alec Baldwin: Ohio’s Next Governor?

    Ohios next governor?

    Ohio's next governor?

We all know Alec Baldwin is a political guy but could he be the next governor of Ohio?

That’s what a group of lawyers from the state are hoping.  They recently sent him a letter asking him to move to Ohio and run in the Democratic Party primaries.  They would like to start his oft-rumored political career in 2012.  Baldwin has said that he intends to retire from acting that year and has also said that, when it comes to getting into politics, “the desire is there.”

I really like Alec Baldwin and think he’s a smart guy.  But does he have what it takes to be a politician?  Hey, stranger things have happened.  Just ask Arnold Schwarzenegger.
