Former NAACP Leader Rachel Dolezal, the white woman who in June 2015 was outed after it was revealed that she was pretending to be black, is today living off food stamps with her family and on the brink of homelessness, reports the nydailynews.
Dolezal, 39, says she still believes she did nothing wrong, two years after going viral on social media when her parents, Larry and Ruthanne, stepped forward to say their daughter was not black. “I’m not going to stoop and apologize and grovel and feel bad about it,” she recently told reporters. “I would just be going back to when I was little, and had to be what everybody else told me I should be — to make them happy.”
The story made international headlines and Dolezal eventually admitted she was “biologically born white to white parents” and compared herself to Caitlyn Jenner, claiming race is “not coded in your DNA.” Dolezal lost her job as an adjunct instructor at Eastern Washington university because of the ordeal, and she hasn’t been able to get work since.
