Searchers found human remains on Saturday believed to be those of Hannah Graham, a missing University of Virginia sophomore.
Human remains were found on an abandoned property and the parents of Hannah have been contacted..
“Today’s discovery is a significant development and we have a great deal of work ahead of us,” Sellers said. “We cannot and we will not jump to any conclusions regarding today’s discovery, so I ask for the public’s patience as we move forward and pursue what is now a new ongoing death investigation.” h/t wavy
The Medical Examiner’s Office in Richmond will conduct an autopsy to determine the identity of the body and the cause of death, Albemarle County Police Chief Steven Sellers said at the press conference
Jesse Matthew Jr., the man suspected of abducting 18-year-old Hannah Graham, was forensically linked to Virginia Tech student Morgan Harrington, 20, who disappeared in 2009.
Sources say forensic evidence belonging to Matthew matched forensic evidence collected during the Harrington investigation.

Hannah Graham‘s parents have issued the following statement, via video and transcribed here, concerning the teen’s disappearance.
Hannah Graham, 18, is the missing University of Virginia student.
A ‘person of interest,’ Jesse “LJ” Matthew, is a 32-year-old nursing assistant who works at UVA hospital. He was spotted in a surveillance video on the night of Graham’s disappearance. Matthew’s told police that he was simply trying to “help” the teen before he saw another man approach her and put his arm around her.
