The family of Eric Garner, the black man who died after being placed in an NYPD officer’s chokehold, can take some solace in knowing they are all about to become millionaires, this after the city reached a $5.9 million settlement in their favor.
In October, Garner’s family filed a notice of claim, the first step in filing a lawsuit against the city. They were asking for $75 million.
Garner, who was 43 at the time of his death, was placed in a chokehold outside a Staten Island convenience store after police officers received complaints he was selling loose cigarettes. Continue reading
Erica Garner, the daughter of Eric Garner, the man who died on a New York street as a result of a policeman’s chokehold, tweeted out the home address of, NYPD officer Justin D’amico one of the cops involved in the altercation.
Up until now, Erica has been an exemplary example of a peaceful protester, but now she is catching huge heat on social media for the controversial maneuver.
With Erica Garner’s tweet of the address, the NYPD will even be more on high alert. Several SWAT teams have already been deployed at New York police stations amid terroristic threats made against law enforcement officials.

Reacting to news of the grand jury’s decision, the unruly crowd started a call and response chant, yelling “Justice for who?” – “Eric Garner!”
“They should react in an uproar. Just like they failed Ferguson, they failed us,” seethed Heather Ewig, 46, who called Garner a friend and “a teddy bear in the community,” as the crowd started to build. Continue reading
NYC grand jury returns no indictment against cop who used choke-hold on Eric Garner.
A New York City grand jury on Wednesday returned no indictment against a white police officer who used a choke hold on Eric Garner, an unarmed black man, while arresting him for illegally selling cigarettes, local media reported.

NYPD arrested Ramsey Orta, the man who filmed cops putting Eric Garner in a chokehold.
Orta was arrested on weapons charges mere blocks from where he recorded Garner’s death. Orta’s wife claims police have been following him ever since.
Orta was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon after allegedly trying to pass a .25-caliber Norton semiautomatic handgun to a teen on the street. Continue reading
