Simon Cowell Idol “Different” Now Paula Abdul is Gone

Paula and Simon in better times

Where were Paula Abdul’s friends when she needed them most? After all, if her fellow judges would have stood up for her, maybe she would still be a part of the American Idol family, but no.

Out of all the judges, Simon Cowell could have stepped up to object to the hardball tactics Abdul received compliments of Idol producers, but no. Even though Abdul and Cowell were once boyfriend and girlfriend, when it came to wielding some of his great clout, Cowell opted to not “get in the middle” as he said recently in an interview with Extra.

Cowell did manage to say something in Abdul’s defense all be it cryptic, stating that “American Idol is different without Paula Abdul.” Cowell alluded that the chemistry was “different” however he added the disclaimer,  ”It’s like comparing a carrot to a banana, they are different.”

Let’s face it, show business is very cutthroat, so when it came time for Randy Jackson, Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell to band together to throw Abdul a lifeline, collectively they did nothing. With friends like that, who needs enemies?

ABC President “We Would Love to Have Paula Abdul”

    who's laughing now?

Most know by now, FOX seriously underestimated the power of Paula Abdul. Now other networks are courting Abdul and her star-power with offers to install Abdul in their own top rated talent competitions.

Steve McPherson, ABC’s entertainment president has been quoted that he would love to have Abdul on “Dancing with the Stars” adding he had already made the call to Abdul.

“I would love to have her. I was a little stunned by the American Idol decision. We would love to have her on ‘Dancing’ either as a participant or a contestant, I definitely have reached out to her. I gave her a call first and foremost to say I was sorry about the situation and to say we’d love to see her on ABC.”

McPherson will have to make Abdul a very nice deal if he wants her on his show as Abdul already met with Nigel Lythgoe, executive producer of “So You Think You Can Dance” this weekend.

No word yet on where Abdul will go post Idol, however one thing is for sure, American Idol brass made a serious mistake letting her walk away over something silly like a few million dollars.

Victoria Beckham to Judge American Idol

With Paula Abdul out, it seems American Idol honchos are already trying to fill the big void.

The promotion machine is in full swing, today announcing none other than, Posh Spice, Victoria Beckham, will judge at least one episode of the upcoming, 9th season of AI.

Reports firstly stated Posh might replace Abdul, which would have actually been somewhat a fair trade-off, however, her reps shot that report down.

Sources close to AI told ThecounT.com, “The producers are worried about a huge void left by Abdul’s departure that Kara Dioguardi simply can not fill, They really didn’t expect the AI fans to react this strongly to AI’s future minus Abdul, the data shows, as of now, ratings will suffer massively now that the panel chemistry is fractured.”

Sexist? Idol Offered Paula Abdul Fraction of Male Counterparts

    Some things never change

Even though Paula Abdul had been with American Idol since day one, she was offered much less in salary then that of her fellow workmates, both whom are male.

Abdul’s asking price was $12 Million, however, it was “no dice” from Idol brass, in stark contrast to Ryan Seacrest, who recently inked a new deal for over $45 Million plus other incentives, while Simon Cowel is reportedly making at least $100 Million a year also with heavy incentives.

A lot of mud was slung as to why Abdul is leaving the popular singing competition that she helped make famous, but when you look at the facts, it comes down to dollars and cents, men are paid dollars and women are often paid cents.

    Paula Abdul OUT of Idol

    Paula Abdul

    Paula Abdul

We can’t say this was unexpected.

Paula Abdul announced on her Twitter page that she is officially out of American Idol.  Done. No more.  Fin.

Let’s allow Paula’s tweets to speak for her:

With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to #IDOL. I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all..

I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day1become an international phenomenon.

What I want to say most, is how much I appreciate the undying support and enormous love that you have showered upon me

It truly has been breathtaking, especially over the past month

I do without any doubt have the BEST fans in the entire world and I love you all

Rumors have been swirling for weeks about Paula’s involvement in the next season.  It’s no secret that she’s been unhappy and looking for more (money, attention, adulation).  You can’t really blame her, she was a major part of the show’s success.

However, some industry insiders are saying that this is PR stunt and Paula’s contract is already signed and ready to go.

It’s Official: Kara DioGuardi Back To American Idol Paula Waits

    No More Idol?

    No More Idol?

While Paula Abdul waits by the phone on word if she will return to American Idol, Kara DioGuardi, can sleep tight knowing she’ll be back on America’s #1 TV show.

Abdul has been there since the beginning, however, Abdul’s relationship seemed strained over the last few seasons with Idol brass, then came the hiring of a 4th, female, judge for season 8, that may have been the beginning of the end.

Many thought the hiring of DioGuardi, was a way for producers to cross fade from Abdul to DioGuardi, and now that seems to be the case as season 9 quickly approaches and still no contract for Abdul.

“(Kara) is a breath of fresh air, and her passion for music and her understanding of talent is invaluable,” “American Idol” creator Simon Fuller said in a statement. It will also be a way for AI to save a heap of money, as the rehiring of Abdul meant a makeover of her contract and certainly millions more for Abdul.
