Ann Coulter‘s cancellation of her controversial speech planned for today at the University of California, Berkeley, didn’t stop law enforcement from descending on the campus in huge numbers.
School officials pulled out of the speaking event citing “security concerns,” saying they would not be able to adequately secure Coulter’s appearance. The conservative speaker also saw her sponsors pull out. But even though the commentator’s event was called off, the city of Berkeley braced for what looked more like World War III.
News helicopters hovered while showing only a handful of protesters assembled, two of which were draped in American flags.
“While we cherish our freedoms of speech and assembly, there is no freedom to silence others or to commit violence,” University Chancellor Nicholas Dirks and Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguin said in a joint statement. Continue reading
