WEST MEMPHIS, AR. (THECOUNT) — Megan Brooke Rivera and De’Angelo Jamar Brown, both of Lancaster, South Carolina, have been identified as the two individuals killed in a West Memphis, Arkansas, police-involved shooting Wednesday.

Rivera, 32, and Brown, 30, were shot dead January 16th in a shooting occurring near the Days Inn, just off of I-40, on 18th Street in West Memphis, just after 9 p.m.

A statement released by the West Memphis Police Department said that officers tried to initiate a traffic stop on Wednesday night, but the driver of the car wouldn’t stop.

“The driver of the vehicle ultimately rammed several police cars and ran over a West Memphis police officer and shots were fired at the scene,” the statement read.

Medical examiners pronounced a man and a woman, later identified as Rivera and Brown, dead at the scene, reported commercialappeal.

The identifications were confirmed Friday by the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory and the Arkansas State Police. Notification to next of kin occurred late Friday, counton2 reported Friday.

The Arkansas State Police investigation of the shooting incident is continuing and will be submitted to the prosecuting attorney for consideration to determine whether the use of deadly force by local police was consistent with Arkansas laws.

West Memphis is the largest city in Crittenden County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 26,245 at the 2010 census, ranking it as the state’s 18th largest city, behind Bella Vista.
