KIRKWOOD, MO. (THECOUNT) — James A. Delia, of Ballwin, MO, and his passenger, Marjorie S. Hunt, of Eureka, MO, have been identified as the victims killed after their vehicle plunged into the pond at the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, near Historic Route 66, in Kirkwood, MO, Tuesday night.

Jim Delia, 61, and 71-year-old Hunt, died after their Hyundai Sonata veered off an Interstate 44 exit ramp and plunged into a pond located at, 1333 S Kirkwood Rd, St. Louis, MO, aka South Lindbergh Boulevard, around 10 p.m.

Both victims were transported to area hospitals and were pronounced dead early Wednesday of injuries consistent with the crash and subsequent submersion.

The Missouri Highway Patrol said the male driver suffered an unspecified medical emergency before driving off the highway. source

Police officer and firefighter suffered minor injuries during the rescue efforts.
