NEW BRAUNFELS, TX (THECOUNT) — Austin Taylor Meade, of North Las Vegas, NV, has turned himself over to New Braunfels, TX, police after being accused of multiple crimes, including killing a woman in a crash while evading police and holding another woman at knifepoint to steal her vehicle.

Meade, 26, remanded himself at the Austin Fire Department Friday morning, according to reports.

Austin PD say he waited at the fire station until police arrived to take him in custody.

It all started on Wednesday at 8 a.m. when New Braunfels police were notified by a San Antonio company that one of their work trucks had been stolen and they had tracked it down to an apartment complex on West County Line Road in New Braunfels. When police responded to that location, they said the truck driver fled the apartment at a high rate of speed, later running a stop sign and colliding with another vehicle. Immediately after the crash, police said Meade exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Shortly later, police say a female driver offered to give the suspect a ride, where Meade allegedly threatened her with a kitchen knife and stole her vehicle. That victim was not injured during the incident.

Meade is charged with first-degree murder. His no-bail bond was set at $1,000,000.
