DEKALB COUNTY, GA. (THECOUNT) — Zachary Meadors, the Freedom Middle School teacher, has been dead in an apparent suicide on Wednesday after being reported missing by family members Monday.

Meadors, 28, was found dead Wednesday from what authorities described as an “apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with one of his male students.

According to the incident report, the victim was a 12-year-old boy.

Before he disappeared, surveillance cameras recorded Meadors as he dropped off three letters and an iPad on the doorstep of his parents’ Lawrenceville home.

Gwinnett County Police Department said they received a call just before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday about a man slumped over in a vehicle in the 1200 block of Scenic Highway, in Lawrenceville.

Meadors, a teacher at the middle school, located at, South Hairston Road, Stone Mountain, GA, was reported missing by his father on Monday. His father informed police that he hadn’t seen Zachary since around 2 p.m. or 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Meadors was under investigation for having an inappropriate relationship with one of his students. He was scheduled to report to the DeKalb County School District headquarters but never showed up.

Zachary’s father says three videos were on the iPad detailing the situation and apologizing to his family for his behavior. He also left behind three written letters apologizing to his family, and instructions on distributing his finances to family members.
