CASA GRANDE, AZ. (THECOUNT) — Javier Figueroa has been identified as the Arizona man who shot his pregnant girlfriend in a Casa Grande home.

Figueroa, 23, shot a 30-year-old woman, who was not identified. She is currently listed in critical condition in an area hospital after being shot in the head Monday night around 8:45 p.m.

The victim was seven months pregnant at the time.

Officials said they were able to deliver the baby at the hospital. The child was delivered two-months premature but is in stable condition.

The woman remains in a medically-induced coma.

Pinal County Sheriff’s Office says 23-year-old Javier Figueroa, the victim’s boyfriend, drove up to the scene in the victim’s vehicle shortly after officials arrived at the scene, about 20 minutes after the call. source

According to deputies, Figueroa had blood on his person and said the shooting was “an accident.”

Officials said they were able to deliver the baby at the hospital. The child was delivered two-months premature but is in stable condition. The woman remains in a medically-induced coma.

It’s unclear what lead to the shooting.

Figueroa has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault and misconduct involving weapons.

Casa Grande is a city in Pinal County, approximately halfway between Phoenix and Tucson in the U.S. state of Arizona. According to the 2010 census, the population of the city is 48,571. It is named after the Casa Grande Ruins National Monument, which is actually located in Coolidge, according to Wikipedia.
