FORT WALTON, FL. (THECOUNT) — Picayune, Mississippi man, Thomas Crawford, was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, in the murder of his grandmother, 71-year-old, Sharon Lee Crawford.

“Tom” Crawford, 30, is accused of allegedly murdering his grandmother because she refused him access to her vehicle. The pair lived together at a residence on Robert Rd in Picayune, MS.

Detectives say they received a call from medical personnel at a Fort Walton Beach hospital saying a patient in their care made allegations he killed his grandmother because she wouldn’t let him use her car, official said.

Subsequently, a welfare check was performed at the home at which time law enforcement located the body of an elderly woman.

The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Thomas Crawford, of 118 Robert Rd., Picayune, said Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Investigator Marc Ogden. source

Sharon Lee Crawford’s manner of death has officially been ruled as homicide.

The Ookalusa County Sheriff’s Department served a warrant for Thomas Crawford for the offense of first degree murder while he was still at the hospital, the Chief Investigator said.

It was not indicated why Thomas Crawford was receiving treatment at the Fort Walton Beach hospital.
