Corpus Christi, TX — (THECOUNT) A Corpus Christi man forgot the golden rule when it comes to killing a dangerous rattlesnake snake, they sometimes play possum, even in the afterlife.

Jennifer Sutcliffe‘s hubby, who declined to be named, is still recovering after being bitten by a (beheaded) rattlesnake while the couple were doing yard work.

The slithering attack occurred during the weekend of May 27 at the couple’s residence near Lake Corpus Christi after they spotted a four-foot rattler in their garden.

Jennifer said her husband quickly took his shovel and severed the snake’s head, but moments later, went back and handled his bounty, which in turn, bit him, delivering all its venom into his blood system, in a way only a headless snake can do.

“Which in that case since there is no ‘body,’ it released all its venom into him at that point, so he had a lot of venoms,” Sutcliffe said. source

Sutcliffe called 911 and began driving her husband to the hospital, who immediately began having seizures, lost his vision and experienced internal bleeding.

Sutcliffe couldn’t get her husband to the hospital fast enough, so she met up with an ambulance where he was eventually transported via LifeFlight.

Sutcliffe said the first 24 hours were the worst.

Sutcliffe’s husband is not out of the woods as far as recovery goes, doctors told her that he might not survive, even after giving him vast amounts of antivenom, as his kidney function was severely weakened.

“A normal person who is going to get bit is going to get two to four doses of antivenom, he had to have 26 doses,” Sutcliffe said.
