New York City man, Oscar Alvarez has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly stabbing his pregnant girlfriend, Liv Abreu, multiple times, then preventing the victim from seeking medical attention for at least 30 minutes before fleeing the scene, Tuesday morning.

Alvarez, 30, has been charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, after critically injuring Abreu, 30, and killing their unborn child, police said Wednesday.

Alvarez allegedly blocked Abreu from leaving the apartment or seeking medical attention for 30 minutes to an hour after the attack, according to the criminal complaint. source

Police were eventually called to Abreu’s Bronx apartment and found her stabbed in the chest, abdomen, and body, authorities said.

Abreu, who was 26 weeks pregnant at the time, was taken to the hospital in critical condition and her unborn baby died, police said.

Abreu’s condition was later upgraded from critical to serious condition, officials said Wednesday.

“Critical condition” means patient vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits. Patient may be unconscious. Indicators are unfavorable. “Serious condition” means vital signs may be unstable and not within normal limits. The patient is considered acutely ill. Alvarez, who was confirmed to be the father of the unborn child, remanded himself in to police custody.
