Although critics gushed over the politically correct, The Last Jedi, the most recent addition to the Star Wars saga, fact is, most real fans, who have devoted their entire lives to support the force, departed the theater thinking “what the hell did I just watch?”

The desparage between fans’ loathing of this installment of the blockbuster franchise and the near-universal acclaim rained down by critics, has prompted a revolt among fans perhaps most evident in a new petition aimed getting producers to admit The Last Jedi is the “worst Star Wars film – ever.”

According to CBR.com, there are some who are so vehemently against the film that even removing it from canon isn’t enough — instead, they want writer/director Rian Johnson to publicly admit that Last Jedi is “awful.”

“The goal of this petition is to make sure that the oh so mighty Rian Johnson will know that we do not support his decisions, and to make sure he knows that what he created is not a masterpiece,” reads the Change.org petition that’s been making the rounds on social media. Cemiria Dawn, the creator of the petition, then goes on to provide a bulleted list of itemized complaints about the film, ranging everywhere from Luke Skywalker’s characterization to the “Cheap, sometimes childish humor” to the entire Canto Bight subplot with Rose and Finn. The petition even includes a bullet for “Overdoing the alien species,” in which Johnson is called out for apparently not including the right type of extraterrestrial creatures in the film. source

Nevertheless, Lucasfilm clearly has more than enough faith in Johnson’s vision for the franchise. Over one month before the official world premiere of The Last Jedi, Lucasfilm announced that Johnson would creatively oversee a new trilogy of Star Wars films, with the press release noting that “As writer-director of The Last Jedi, Johnson conceived and realized a powerful film of which Lucasfilm and Disney are immensely proud.”
