Danish inventor Peter Madsen is suspected of manslaughter in the death of Swedish journalist Kim Wall.

On Wednesday, Danish police confirmed that DNA tests from a headless body discovered after it washed ashore off Copenhagen match with 30-year-old Wall, who was believed to have died on the submarine which sank on Aug. 11. Madsen’s lawyer now says he stands by his explanation that Wall died during an accident while aboard a homemade submarine.

Danish police say that a headless torso found in waters off Denmark was attached to a piece of metal, “likely with the purpose to make it sink.”

Kim Wall was a Swedish journalist based between New York and Beijing. She penned articles on popular culture, gender, foreign policy, and identity.
