In a news conference late Friday afternoon, Waterbury police identified the victims as Chaquinequea Brodie, of Waterbury, CT., as well as her 9-year-old daughter, as those found dead in a Third Street home. Brodie’s 2-year-old daughter was not hurt in the incident, but was taken to Saint Mary’s Hospital for evaluation.
Waterbury police confirm that they have a suspect in custody in connection with a double homicide at a home on Third Street Friday morning.

Just after 9:00 a.m., Waterbury officers responded to a multi-family home on Third Street on a disturbance call. Crystal Spires said, “I was hearing multiple police sirens so that’s what drew my attention to even look out the window. And saw them coming down one after another. They were getting out and literally running.” source
Police found two females dead inside a multi-family building. Spires added, “Looking at the officers expression you knew that something was terribly wrong.”
A man who lives in the same building says he saw a toddler run out of the apartment in the rain and went to help. He said, “She was crying mommy is dead. Mommy is dead.”
Police identified the suspect as 28-year-old Anthony Rutherford. Officers said he was in possession of a handgun at the time of his arrest, and has faced weapons charges in the past. He is charged with two counts of murder, reckless endangerment, and risk of injury to a minor.
