We just reported on a tragedy involving a teen who was electrocuted while visiting Put-In-Bay, OH., after jumping in the water to save the family dog. And now, a waterpark in Turkey is the scene of a similar fatal accident involving electricity.
The most striking similarity is now the following cautionary tale.

If you see someone, who is otherwise a good swimmer, suddenly flailing in the water, there’s a chance there getting electrocuted. In this case, you do not want to jump in right away to save them. Check for an obvious source of electricity and pull the plug or shut down the power at a master junction box BEFORE you touch the water.
Yesterday, five people were electrocuted at a water park in northwest Turkey, including two teenagers and a 12-year-old, Turkish media reports said.
The three youngsters were caught up in an electrical current in the pool in the town of Akyazi in Sakarya province, the state-run Anadolu Agency reported. The park’s 58-year-old manager and his son 30-year-old son were killed when they jumped into the pool to try to save the flailing children, according to the private Dogan news agency.
Employees at the water park, 150 kilometers (93 miles) east of Istanbul, later cut power at the resort. Dogan reported. It added, however, that the park lacked a residual current breaker that shuts down power to prevent electrical shocks.
All five were rushed to a hospital in Akyazi but could not be saved. Two other people were hurt after touching metal railings near the pool, the reports said. The children who died were aged 12, 15 and 17.
In the accident that happened in Put-In-Bay Ohio, Evan Currie, 19, of Dublin, Ohio, was killed in a freak accident on Put-in-Bay while trying to save the family dog.
According to a preliminary report, the incident happened after the Currie family, of Dublin, Ohio, docked their boat at the Miller Marina on Langram Road on the island. The boat was plugged into the dock when the family dog fell into the water and was struggling. The boat’s owner Jeffrey Currie jumped in to fetch the dog but he also started to struggle. That’s when his two sons jumped in to help, but they too began to have difficulties swimming.
Currie’s wife, Elizabeth, was on-board the boat and bystanders told her to unplug the power. As soon as she did the electrical current stopped and Currie and his sons were able to get back on the boat.
Evan, however, was unresponsive and convulsing. He was given CPR and transported to the mainland where he was pronounced dead.
