Police said they tried to stop a suspected drunken driver early Thursday who was trying to avoid a sobriety checkpoint, but sadly cops chased the man directly in the path of a closed street – full of festivalgoers. He collided with dozens of people, killing two before coming to a halt.

The emergency department director at the University Medical Center-Brackenridge said Thursday those two people have serious, life-threatening head injuries.

Dr. Christopher Ziebell also said three patients were in serious condition, but are expected to recover. source

 
The driver, whose name has not yet been released, was treated for minor injuries. Cops will have some serious explaining to do on this one..
