This is interesting… new “Summit Entertainment” film “Fair Game” is starring female actor Naomi Watts, and co-starring Sean Penn. Watts plays “an outed CIA operative” who gets in some big trouble, and Penn plays her husband.

Summit Entertainment is betting their money on Naomi Watts to lead this film. I remember when that Jodie Foster movie came out in 07′, “The Brave One”, and Warner Bros. regretted having a female actor (Foster) lead a film. I don’t think they were pointing directly at Foster, they were just mad about taking a risk and depending on a woman to pull in people at the theater-the turnout was awful. The WB president Jeff Robinov was so mad about the box office numbers, he said “Warner Bros is no longer doing movies with a woman in the lead.”  They sure aren’t taking chances with females running the show anymore! In the good old days it was all about have a female front a movie!

Summit Entertainment thinks that Naomi Watts has enough star power to bring in the numbers for Fair Game. They  must not be following the steps of Warner Bros.  She is a great actress, especially in David Lynch movie “Mullholland Drive”. That is a must see! If you watch that, you’ll love Naomi Watts if you didn’t before!

I could see Angelina Jolie playing this role of course-but she just did a similar role in “Salt”…
