The Final Destination was number one at the box office this weekend, bringing in a nice $28.3 million, surpassing expectations. The film was helped by the extra cost some moviegoers had to pay to see the film in 3D. Nice move, New Line.
Halloween II came in a little under predictions with $17.4 million, claiming third place. The film got bad reviews (like The Final Destination) and saw its hype dissipate before its premiere but $17.4 million isn’t bad. In fact, there’s already talk about a third Halloween movie — in 3D! The future is now!
Inglourious Basterds is holding well in second place with $20 million. The movie is still the talking point for many film conversations these days and it’s only receiving great word-of-mouth. Tarantino has a hit on his hands.
And the summer movie season is now officially over!
